I moved to Dubai from England with my husband and two children (Sam 12, Anusha 14 going on 17) in 2008.
I used to be a journalist in the UK but career took a back seat for a long time due to motherhood and illness. I'm well now - bi-polar but well, thankfully. Working in a freelance capapcity here has proved very difficult; it's fiercely competitive, so much about 'who you know' and then when work is commissioned it's paid so poorly it honestly doesn't merit the time and stress.
Anyhoo, fingers crossed I'm hoping to get an elusive part-time job...we'll see, if it's meant to be...I am a Christian and I have found my spiritual home at Christ Church Jebel Ali, it's such a lovely, warm hearted wonderful place (don't knock unti you try it!). I feel very passionately about three things really (outside of family and friends that is) 1. Mental illness and the ignorance and stigma that still surrounds it. 2. Animal welfare, particularly at the moment that relating to vast numbers of stray dogs and cats in Dubai and the pervasively negative attitude and cruelty that exists here towards them. 3. Human rights, specifically here the ill treatment of lesser paid Indian workers and both Sri-Lankan and Filipino maids.
All very serious, but hey I do have a killer sense of humor :)!
